Sarah Malik, CEO of SOL International Ltd, is an award-winning lawyer who achieved ‘Litigator of the Year’ (2022) at the first GCC Women in Law Awards. In 2023, SOL was named by Legal 500 EMEA as a ‘Firm to Watch in Dispute Resolution: Arbitration and International Litigation’ and Sarah is listed as a leading practitioner in ‘The Arbitration Powerlist: Middle East’ by Legal 500 EMEA.
In March 2023, Sarah was appointed to the Advisory Committee for the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) and in June 2023 was appointed to the DIFC Courts Users Committee.
She was also appointed to the Advisory Board for Juris Centre for Excellence in Legal Education and Training at Middlesex University, Dubai in January 2023.
Sarah is a member of the SIAC Users Council in the Middle East and is appointed on the Lagos Panel of Arbitration Neutrals. Sarah is a Fellow of the CIArb and sits as Arbitrator.
She undertakes international commercial arbitration as Counsel and practices commercial litigation at the DIFC and ADGM Courts.
Sarah has been instructed on DIFC, ADGM, and UK litigation and has appeared as Counsel in the first contested discrimination and whistleblowing claim at the DIFC Courts where she successfully defended a strike-out application in respect of jurisdiction.
She was instructed on a matter at the ADGM Courts that involved multi-millions of government funds in respect of PPE equipment and was successfully able to obtain a court order requiring full payment into court before the commencement of trial.
Sarah was lead advocate in a multi-million construction claim under DIAC where she successfully represented the contractor in a claim in respect of outstanding payment. She has successfully mediated various matters under ADGM and DIFC courts.
Sarah is frequently invited to speak at conferences within the UAE, GCC and internationally including for ICC, CIArb and IBA. She has organised and ran Inaugural Disputes Days in various jurisdictions worldwide. She also trains various academies, arbitral institutions and judiciary worldwide. Sarah is a visiting lecturer on the LLM at Middlesex University Dubai and is also a published author of two legal texts, including a Guide to GCC Arbitration.
